The second auction organized by the vintage and classic car auction house Ardor Auctions took place on May 21 st . This time it was held at the Rozalin Palace near Warsaw, as opposed to the previous one which took place at the PGE Narodowy stadium. Location of the event was definitely not chosen by coincidence.

The palace complex in Rozalin was built in the 19 th century as an initiative of Henryk Marconi, a very well-known architect at the time. The facility has been known for many automotive-related events that were held there in recent years, like for instance the warmly received Forza Italia car meet. However, this time the prestige of the event was much greater.

19 vehicles offered by the vintage and classic car auction house Ardor Auctions were carefully chosen with specific characteristics in mind. Our aim was to feature cars distinguished by lightness and sporting spirit – mission accomplished, we think. At precisely 1 PM cars were made available for inspection by prospective buyers. Our guests entered the auction by purchasing the auction catalogue for 100 PLN. The weather was great throughout the event, with sunshine and no rain, which had a positive effect on the general ambience.

Bidding was scheduled for 5 PM. Over 400 visitors gathered in front of the palace. Vehicles were rolled onto the scene, just like at world’s most famous and prestigious auctioning events. Guests were warmly welcomed by Michał Wróbel, head of Ardor Auctions. He also introduced the team responsible for organizing the event. Juliusz Windorbski, CEO of Desa Unicum, who conducted the auction, introduced guests to rules governing events of this type.

Bidding started with object number 001, which was an Alfa Romeo Giulia TI. A vehicle with surprisingly interesting, Polish history was rolled onto the scene. Each bidding was preceded by a presentation conducted by a panel of Ardor Auctions’ experts, where they mentioned each detail relevant to potential customers. Among all the cars on offer there were two Ferraris – a 308GTB and a GTB Turbo, second one of which got all the attention, as it is one of the rarest Ferrari-badged cars from the 80’s. Ferrari GTB Turbo featured at the Rozalin 2016 auction is one of just 44 examples ever to have left the factory with ABS and so-called convex wheels. Bidding was intense, guests were looking forward to seeing vehicles they saw during inspections. The biggest stir was probably caused by one of the smallest cars on the auction, which was a 1969 Fiat 500.

Bidding started at 45 000 PLN, but because the car caused so much excitement, it was eventually sold for 75 000 PLN. What makes it particularly remarkable is that until recently, this sort of cars have been sold for this much money only on classic car shows in Essen or Paris. The event itself was crowned with a cocktail party, where the guests could enjoy good music and wine. Organizers of the event have already announced that this is not the last auction held this year. More details can be found soon at www.ardorauctions.pl. The event was warmly received by the guests. Its prestige was enormous, even judging by the machinery gathered at the parking lot, which made every car fan around stop and stare for a couple of minutes. Those interested in aviation also had something to look at, as two buyers chose to arrive at the auctions by helicopters.

The first Polish auction house focusing strictly on classic cars is an ambitious undertaking. Now we’ve seen how many classic car enthusiasts and potential buyers can be gathered at such event. Polish customers – just as their western counterparts – have realized that classic motoring is not just about passion, but it could also make for a viable capital investment. Because let’s face it: bonds or securities may be valuable, but they cannot be driven, heard or enjoyed.
